Palestinian Partners - Municipality of Jericho
 | Our journey leads us in search of other landscapes. It takes us down and along spectacular roads towards the Jordan Valley. It brushes past encampments occupied by Bedouins, the transhumant shepherds of Palestine. And puts us down in a surprising oasis. How different Jericho is from Nablus. It is a lazy city, with a slow pace of life and an air of time-wasting. It is shot in Jericho, sometimes unbearably so in the summer, though the winter months are pleasantly warm: in fact, Jericho has always been a winter refuge for the inhabitants of Jerusalem. Here one can sense the holiness of religions: on the mountain overlooking the city Christ fasted for forty days and was tempted by the devil. Here the tax collector Zacchaeus developed a social conscience following Christ’s visit to his house. A short distance from Jericho, the Muslims venerate what they believe to be the tomb of Moses. The city is a crossroads of faiths of a kind only to be found in a Holy Land. But Jericho is also its delicious dates, fresh vegetables and fertile fields |
